When choosing your solicitor it is important that you meet several firms first, and find out their hourly rate, Also when you arrange your first meeting with all of the Soliciting firms bear in mind some may charge for this, by doing this you not only meet the team that will be helping you with, but it gives you time to judge them, ask for recent jobs undertaken, how long they have been trading and how much they will charge you.
The best way to finding a firm that you know will work for you are by recommendation, ask around to some friends, companies, or associates you know have dealt with the same kind of issue you have.
When hunting around for your solicitor, follow our easy steps to finding the right solicitor for you;
• Determine what it is you want your solicitor to resolve, and the outcome you are looking for
• Ensure they have happy customers, ask for some referrals from clients that are going through the same issues as you.
• Set up an interview with two or three solicitors so you can get to meet them, and ask specific questions.
• Keep the interviews focused and determine that you are comfortable with them dealing with all your issues, advise and you have total confidence in them. When in your interview, here are some questions you should cover:
- What is the main part of law you deal in, for example wills, inheritance tax, divorce or employment, most solicitors will specialise in one or two areas of law, so its important that you know what you want them to resolve.
- Do you have vast knowledge in my industry, or field? If not ask them whether they think this is important for the services they will be providing to you. In some circumstances it will be necessary, but some areas will not require in depth information, if it is a relatively simple issue, most solicitors will be able to advise you on a suitable solicitor, if they are not happy to take it on.
- How will you be charged? When looking for a solicitor, it's tempting to go for the cheapest option, but it might not be the best option for you to take, given your circumstances. Always discuss the fees upfront so you know what is coming at the end of your case.
• Ask each solicitor for a few references for other clients, if they are happy to give them, contact the references, and ask them how easy it is to work with that solicitor.
• With the information you gather in the interview you should be well prepared to select the right solicitor to resolve your issues.
